GMC Facebook Feed Gallery — Documentation (WordPress)

GMC Facebook Feed Gallery embeds a Facebook page's posts, photos and videos directly on your WordPress site as a fast, responsive gallery, with a local lightbox, optional media caching and simple shortcodes. It works in two connection modes: the official Facebook Page Plugin (no token needed) or the Meta Graph API for a fully native gallery. It is aimed at tour operators, hotels, restaurants and any brand that is active on Facebook and wants that content on its own site instead of a fixed third-party embed.

Installation

  1. In your WordPress dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
  2. Choose the plugin .zip file you downloaded (keep it zipped) and click Install Now.
  3. Click Activate. The plugin's settings screen appears in the admin menu after activation.

Requirements: WordPress 6.0 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer.

Configuration

Open the plugin's settings screen from the admin menu and decide which connection mode you want:

  • Page Plugin fallback — no token required. The plugin renders the official Facebook Page Plugin for your page. You can set the Page Plugin locale and store Page Plugin defaults in the global settings.
  • Meta Graph API — enter a Meta Graph API page access token in the settings. This mode pulls posts, photos and videos and renders them as a native, responsive gallery. You can also pin a specific Graph API version if you need to.

Other settings worth reviewing:

  • Local media cache — enable it to serve photos and videos from your own site, which makes the setup more GDPR-friendly and keeps the feed rendering even when the Graph API is slow. A stale-cache-on-error fallback keeps showing the last good content if the API is briefly unavailable, so the block never goes blank during an outage.
  • Layout defaults — cards or list layout, number of columns, a Load More button, optional header and page text, like / comment / share stats and an optional link back to Facebook.
  • Colours — accent and overlay colour pickers are available both in the widget editor and in the global plugin settings.

The fastest route to a working feed is a saved feed: use the Quick setup presets, keep the global-connection mode, leave the collapsed advanced options for later, check the live layout preview and copy the ready-made shortcode.

Using the plugin

Placing a feed with shortcodes

Four shortcodes are available and can be placed in any post, page or widget area: [gmcfacebookpagefeed], [gmcfacebookfeed], [gmcfacebookgallery] and [gmcsocialpage]. Examples:

  • Page Plugin embed: [gmcfacebookpagefeed page="https://www.facebook.com/PAGE_NAME" tabs="timeline"]
  • Graph API gallery: [gmcfacebookgallery page_id="PAGE_ID" access_token="TOKEN" type="photos" columns="3"]

With a saved feed you normally don't write attributes by hand — the settings screen gives you a copy-ready shortcode for the feed you configured.

Gallery layouts and the lightbox

Graph API feeds render as responsive cards or list layouts with configurable columns and an optional Load More button. Photos and videos open in a local lightbox, so visitors stay on your site. The Showcase layout adds a hover-reveal overlay showing the post text plus likes / comments and date, with a fixed 3-column default.

Caching behaviour

When the local media cache is enabled, media the plugin has already fetched is served from your site. If the Graph API is slow or temporarily down, the plugin serves the cached content it already has, so the page still renders instead of breaking.

Languages

The plugin ships with English, Italian and Spanish out of the box and respects your site's multilingual setup.

Updates & licence

After purchase you receive a Download Key with your licence email. Enter it on the plugin's settings screen — this key unlocks licensed one-click updates from the GMC / FuerteventuraTV update server. The plugin checks the update server on its own (about every 12 hours) and shows new versions under Plugins / Dashboard → Updates like any other plugin, as long as your licence is active. The updater validates the licensed gateway download URL before it is used for a one-click update, and you can also re-download the latest build from your account at any time.

The software is released under the GNU GPL. Your purchase covers the official build, licensed updates and support for one site; the licence applies to the wp-gmc-facebook-page-feed plugin — the Joomla edition is a separate product. For more sites or client projects, contact us for a volume or agency arrangement.

Support

For help, reply to your purchase email or message us on WhatsApp at +34 633 168 995 (the same line appears in your licence email). Please include the product name and version, your WordPress and PHP version, and a public URL or screenshot with any tokens or keys masked. We answer in English, Italian and Spanish. If the product does not work as described and we cannot fix it for you, you can request a refund within 14 days of purchase.

Everything included

61 real capabilities, grouped by area — the full depth of the Facebook Feed Gallery, not a highlight reel.

Feed sources & reliability

  • No-token Page Plugin mode — embed the official Facebook Page Plugin with zero API setup; just paste a public Page URL.
  • Meta Graph API galleries — pull the Page's own posts, photos, videos or photo albums as a real on-site gallery using an official Page access token.
  • Automatic fallback — if the Graph API returns nothing or errors, it falls back to the Page Plugin embed so the block never renders empty.
  • Stays online during outages — serves the last cached copy of media it already fetched when the Graph API is slow or unreachable, so pages keep rendering instead of breaking.
  • Multi-account merged feeds — store one token per Page and render several Facebook Pages merged into a single newest-first, de-duplicated feed (up to 10 sources).
  • Multi-ID feeds — a page_id="111,222" list (comma or pipe, up to 10 IDs) fans out to per-ID Graph calls and merges the results.
  • Four content types — posts, photos, videos, or an interactive photo-albums browser, each from the same widget.

Layouts & on-page display

  • Six display styles — cards, list, masonry, YOOtheme/theme-match, info-rich "showcase", and a magazine home-feed layout.
  • Native theme-match preset — inherits your active theme's look automatically (real UIkit markup on Joomla/YOOtheme Pro; self-contained matching CSS on WordPress).
  • Info-rich showcase preset — photo grid with a dark gradient overlay showing caption, date and like/comment counts, plus a Facebook permalink glyph and hover-reveal.
  • Carousel / slider mode — render the theme-match preset as a swipeable slider with prev/next arrows and dots.
  • In-widget content tabs — one widget can show a Posts / Photos / Videos tab switcher fed by separate Graph edges.
  • Photos-albums browser — a grid of the Page's albums (cover + name + count); click an album to reveal its photos in the lightbox, with a back button — fetched in a single Graph call.
  • Album filter chips — define labelled albums by caption keyword and let visitors filter the grid client-side ("All" + per-album chips).
  • Configurable grid — 1–6 columns, adjustable gutter spacing, and square or natural image crop.
  • Load More + infinite scroll — a Load More button with a configurable initial threshold, or auto-trigger on scroll.
  • Call-to-action button — optional per-card CTA (custom label + URL) linking wherever you choose.
  • Toggle what shows — independent switches for the header, post text, and the like/comment/share stats row.
  • Engagement stats + link-back — optional like, comment and share counts on posts, with an optional link back to the original Facebook post.
  • Quick-start presets — one-click starting points (Simple, Showcase, Carousel, Magazine home, Albums) that set sensible layout defaults.
  • Accent & overlay colour pickers — brand the showcase overlay/accent with validated hex colours.

Media & lightbox

  • Built-in lightbox — opens photos and videos in an on-page modal (no redirect), with an info panel showing caption, date, likes, comments and a "View on Facebook" link.
  • Local media cache (GDPR-friendly) — optionally download remote media to your own server so nothing streams live from Meta's CDN on each page view; skips re-downloading files already on disk.
  • Smart media extraction — picks the largest image for display and smallest for thumbnails, and detects video attachments (including sub-attachments) on posts.

Content curation & filtering

  • Include / exclude keyword filters — show or hide posts by words in their caption.
  • Banned words — suppress any post containing terms you list.
  • Hide specific posts — exclude individual posts by ID.
  • De-duplication — merged multi-source feeds drop repeats automatically.

Connect your Page (admin setup)

  • Easy Connect via GMC (no Meta app needed) — one button: log in with Facebook, approve your Page, done; the hosted GMC relay brokers the login and the plugin saves the Page token — it never stores your token itself. (Requires your licence key; unlocks when the relay is live.)
  • Connect with Facebook (advanced, your own Meta app) — one-click OAuth that fetches the token and Page ID automatically, with a multi-Page picker when you manage several.
  • Manual permanent-token exchange — paste a short-lived User token and get a non-expiring Page token back, no Access Token Debugger needed.
  • Guided setup wizard — a three-step connection walkthrough on the settings screen.
  • Test connection button — validates the token/Page ID against the live Graph API and returns clear messages (expired/invalid token, wrong Page ID, missing permission, rate limit).
  • Token-invalid alerts — a Graph error 190 flags the token and surfaces an admin notice so you know to reconnect.
  • Minimal permissions — requests only pages_show_list + pages_read_engagement, avoiding "Invalid Scopes" errors.
  • Configurable Graph version & locale — set the Meta Graph API version and the Facebook SDK locale.

Admin management & authoring

  • Saved-feed manager — a backend list of saved widgets with create/edit, duplicate, and copy-shortcode; embed any saved feed by ID (id="N").
  • Live layout preview panel — a placeholder-tile preview in the editor that updates as you change columns/style/crop/carousel/albums (approximate; exact theme look is front-end).
  • Global vs per-widget connection — reuse one global Page connection or override credentials per saved feed.
  • Shortcodes everywhere — drop a feed into any article/page with four interchangeable shortcode aliases; inline attributes always override saved defaults.
  • WordPress Gutenberg block — a native gmc/facebook-feed block for the editor.
  • WordPress classic widget — a legacy widget for sidebar/footer areas.
  • WordPress FB Feeds CPT — manage saved feeds as a custom post type with a display-options meta box and a shortcode column in the list.
  • Page Plugin embed options — timeline/events/messages tabs, width/height, small header, hide cover, and facepile toggles.

Performance & caching

  • Graph response caching — configurable TTL (file cache on Joomla, transients on WordPress) with adjustable request timeout.
  • Gateway negative caching — a failed licence check is cached for ~10 minutes so a gateway outage doesn't re-fire a blocking HTTP call on every page view.
  • Daily media-cache purge — a scheduled task prunes stale cached media automatically.
  • Concurrency-safe writes — cache/media files written with locking to avoid corruption under load.

Security, privacy & GDPR

  • Full output escaping & input hardening — regex-cleaned Page IDs, whitelisted tokens, escaped output throughout.
  • Meta CDN host allowlist — local-media downloads are restricted to Meta's own hosts via a safe remote-get.
  • Secrets stay server-side — the Meta App Secret is stored encrypted and used only server-side, never exposed on the front end; the licence key is sent server-to-server only.
  • Self-hosting for GDPR — optional local media cache keeps copies on your own server; documented cache locations for retention/erasure.

Internationalisation

  • English, Italian & Spanish out of the box — both admin and front-end strings (wizard, connection boxes, lightbox, Load More, album filters, stats labels) are fully translated, and it respects your site's multilingual setup.

Trust & licensing

  • GPLv2-or-later — open-source licence.
  • Self-hosted, official data — reads directly from the official Meta Graph API / Facebook Page Plugin; no third-party SaaS middleman (unlike competitor feeds routed through a vendor API).
  • Licensed one-click updates — the extension auto-checks the GMC / FuerteventuraTV update server (~every 24h) and offers new versions through the normal CMS updater while your licence is active.
  • Download Key via email — delivered with your purchase email; entered once to unlock updates.
  • Graceful licence grace period — a previously-licensed site keeps rendering during a gateway outage (last-known-good); it only blocks on a definitive denial.
  • One-site licence — covers one site; volume/agency arrangements on request. Sold per platform (Joomla and WordPress are separate products/builds).

Joomla & WordPress

  • Joomla — theme-match/carousel/tabs/lightbox emit native UIkit markup (uk-card, uk-slider, uk-tab, uk-lightbox) so galleries inherit the active YOOtheme Pro theme, with graceful fallback on non-UIkit sites; ships a real admin component with a saved-widgets manager and an extra gmcsocialpage shortcode alias; richer post normalization (engagement stats).
  • WordPress — the same feature set with self-contained CSS/JS (no UIkit dependency); adds a Gutenberg block, a classic widget, and an FB Feeds custom post type; auto-update toggle and full uninstall cleanup of settings, licence and cached data.
