Gran Tarajal wins its first Blue Flag in 2026

The port of Gran Tarajal, in the municipality of Tuineje, joins the list of Canary Islands Blue Flags for the first time. The recognition came during the Ecopuertos Inteligentes (Smart Eco-Ports) day held on Monday 22 June at Puerto de las Nieves in Agaete, which brought together residents, visitors, sea professionals and institutional representatives.
Gran Tarajal is the only Fuerteventura site among the six Canarian general-interest, directly managed ports that earned the distinction for the first time, alongside Agaete, Garachico, Caleta del Sebo, Órzola and Playa Blanca. The Blue Flag certifies the standards reached in environmental management, safety, accessibility, service quality and port modernisation.
The ceremony, followed by the raising of the flag, was one of the highlights of a programme that from 10:00 offered workshops, guided visits, environmental demonstrations, an exhibition of historic photographs and spaces for local artisans and producers. Puertos Canarios, the public business entity of the Canary Islands Government operating as Ecopuertos Autonómicos de Canarias, gave a very positive assessment of the day.
