2. The news in detail
Puerto Lajas once again becomes a mountain-bike stage on Saturday 27 June with two events now firmly established in the local sporting calendar. The V Cronoescalada Valhondo will test riders' endurance and preparation on a demanding route of about 17 kilometres entirely uphill, with close to 600 metres of positive climbing, starting in Puerto Lajas and finishing at the emblematic Montaña Piedra Sales.
Running alongside it, the IV Carrera MTB Escuelas is aimed at younger riders with circuits adapted to each category: a way to bring children closer to cycling and pass on values such as effort, perseverance and respect for the environment.
3. Voices and statements
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, stressed the importance of promoting events that encourage physical activity and bring life to the municipality's villages: "Puerto Lajas once again shows its ability to host quality sporting events that attract participants from across the island". Sports councillor Luis Chacón highlighted the event's growth, while organiser Sergio Pérez thanked the council for its support and the riders for taking part.
