Pleno de Puerto del Rosario: Fuerteventura Avanza denuncia el rechazo de dos mociones

Puerto del Rosario council: Fuerteventura Avanza slams rejection of two motions

1. Key points

  • Two Fuerteventura Avanza motions rejected at Monday's plenary

  • First proposal: anti-discrimination training for grassroots sports clubs

  • Second proposal: a service area for motorhomes and campers

  • Ania accuses CC and the PSOE of “political cynicism”

  • The party says it will keep tabling initiatives

2. The news in detail

Fuerteventura Avanza councillor Érika Ania has sharply criticised Coalición Canaria and the PSOE after two of the party's motions were rejected at Monday's plenary. For Ania, the governing group “has shown once again that its only policy is to vote against any opposition proposal, even when it benefits Puerto del Rosario.”

The first initiative proposed making it a condition for municipal grants that sports clubs run training on preventing hate crime, racism, xenophobia and LGBTI-phobia, giving coaches and managers tools to protect minors in grassroots sport. The second called for a municipal service point for motorhomes and campers, with wastewater emptying, drinking-water supply and waste management.

“Puerto del Rosario remains the main gateway to Fuerteventura and still lacks a basic service that hundreds of motorhome users have been demanding for years,” the councillor said.

3. Voices and statements

“For weeks we've heard the PSOE and Coalición Canaria talk about equality and inclusion. Today they had the chance to show they meant it, and they voted for exactly the opposite,” said Érika Ania.

4. Context and background

The motions were debated at Puerto del Rosario council's ordinary plenary on Monday 29 June 2026. Fuerteventura Avanza is an opposition group on the municipal corporation.

5. What it means for Fuerteventura

The debate touches two sensitive issues in Fuerteventura: protecting minors in sport and services for the growing motorhome tourism on the island. Follow local politics in the Fuerteventura news.
