2. The news in detail
Puerto del Rosario's council presented on Wednesday its new Family Respite and Support Programme, an initiative offering help to people facing dependency, social vulnerability or a need for support, as well as to their families and carers.
The programme responds to the rising number of families who continuously care for a relative. The service provides personalised support, promotes autonomy and gives carers respite periods, aiming to ease work-life balance, reduce physical and emotional strain and prevent isolation and unwanted loneliness. Built on a person-centred care model, it offers responses tailored to each situation. Those interested can get information through the Municipal Social Services.
3. Voices and statements
“Caring for those who care is also a responsibility of public administrations. We want to offer real support so families can rest, balance their lives and take on this task with greater peace of mind,” said Mayor David de Vera.
4. Context and background
The programme was presented on Wednesday 1 July 2026 in Puerto del Rosario. It is run by the Municipal Social Services, which provide the requirements and how to apply.
