Puerto del Rosario's plenary, meeting on Monday, approved the start of two institutional recognition procedures. On one side, the process to name three public streets after the late former presidents of the Canary Islands' Government Jerónimo Saavedra Acevedo, Adán Martín Menis and Manuel Hermoso Rojas, honouring their contribution to consolidating Canary self-government.
On the other, the procedure to award the Sporting Merit Distinction to basketball player Carla Brito, one of the leading names in Canary and Spanish women's basketball. Trained at Club Baloncesto Amuley, Brito has represented Spain internationally, winning U-19 World silver and U-20 European bronze among other successes. Both cases will proceed under the Municipal Honours and Distinctions Regulation, with the required reports before returning to the plenary for final approval.
