Puerto del Rosario town council is taking part in the working group developing a Municipal Bylaw on Safe Sporting Environments, an initiative of the Canary Islands Federation of Municipalities (FECAM) designed to promote sporting spaces that are safe, protective and committed to the wellbeing of children and teenagers.
In application of Organic Law 8/2021 (LOPIVI), Spain's comprehensive child-protection law, the council already requires documentary proof of child-protection measures both in its sports grant calls and in applications to book municipal sports facilities: a certificate from the club naming its protection officer — the person minors can turn to, who is responsible for publicising and enforcing the protocols and for raising the alarm when a possible situation of violence is detected — together with an internal child-protection protocol for sporting activities.
Clubs that have not yet approved their protocol may submit a formal declaration or a certificate from their governing body confirming that the drafting and approval procedure is under way and committing to its implementation.
To help clubs meet these obligations, the sports department is promoting the course 'Building sporting environments that protect minors and promote good treatment', organised by the Canary Islands Government's Directorate-General for the Protection of Children and Families together with the Directorate-General for Physical Activity and Sport, within the Entornos 4P+ project.
The training is aimed at anyone who holds or will hold the role of protection officer and covers the LOPIVI legal framework and obligations, the duties of the role, prevention, detection and response to possible situations of violence, and practical tools for implementing the protocol in clubs. Registration is completed online through the dedicated form.
