Canarias 1500 Km de Costa opens 2026/27 talks with 12 new safety videos
1. Key points
Sebastián Quintana, the association’s president, gave two talks on Tuesday at the state-funded school in Gran Canaria’s capital.
The twelve new tip videos join about thirty existing pieces on beach, pool and coastal risks.
The campaign is backed by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the regional government, Museo Elder, the city council and Binter.
2. The news in detail
On Tuesday 22 September 2026 the awareness programme returned to classrooms after the summer. Across two morning slots, the presenter set out basic rules for safer behaviour in aquatic settings and how to respond in an emergency.
This year’s addition is the premiere of a dozen short films. They expand the association’s catalogue, designed to show everyday risk situations without over-dramatising them and in language that works for teenagers.
The session took place in the assembly hall at CPEIPS San Rafael on Calle Padre Dámaso Serna. The public-interest initiative brings together education, emergency and tourism bodies on the island, plus private support from the Canarian airline.
3. Voices and statements
Quintana stressed that prevention starts with simple habits and with spotting danger signs in the water early.
4. Context and background
The first two 2026/27 talks took place on 22 September 2026 at CPEIPS San Rafael in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with about one hundred and fifty secondary students.
5. What it means for Fuerteventura
For Fuerteventura, where the campaign has already logged aquatic incidents over the summer season, the school restart reinforces the same water-safety message on beaches and in pools. More coverage on Fuerteventura TV.
