Puerto del Rosario sets out the rules for the San Juan and San Pedro bonfires

  • Emergencies: Local Police 928 850 635, Fire Brigade 928 530 744, emergencies 112

2. The news in detail

Puerto del Rosario Town Hall has reminded residents of the rules and recommendations set for the traditional San Juan and San Pedro bonfires, with the aim of safeguarding people, protecting the environment and preventing any incident during the celebrations.

Anyone wishing to organise a bonfire must notify the council in advance through a formal application via the Registro de Entrada before 18 June, stating the planned location, the details of the responsible person and a contact telephone number. The council stresses that lighting bonfires is strictly prohibited on beaches, coastal bathing areas and protected natural spaces, and that any complementary activity will require the relevant administrative authorisation.

Among the safety measures, bonfires may not exceed four metres in height and must keep a minimum six-metre safety perimeter, as well as standing at least 80 metres from buildings, power lines, installations, vehicles or public premises. The use of plastics, tyres, household appliances, aerosols or any other waste whose combustion produces polluting gases is banned, as is setting fires on asphalt, landscaped areas or pavements. Organisers must remain on site from lighting until the bonfire is fully extinguished.

3. Voices and statements

“The goal is for residents and visitors to enjoy safe celebrations: we ask for responsibility, respect for the environment and compliance with the established distances and measures.”

— Puerto del Rosario Town Hall, Festivities Department

The council invites residents to contact the Festivities Department for further information and recalls that any additional celebration will need the relevant authorisation.

4. Context and background

The nights of San Juan (23-24 June) and San Pedro (28-29 June) are among the most cherished of the Canarian summer, with fire as the great protagonist along the coast. That is why the Town Hall publishes its recommendations every year in good time: the key date to note is 18 June, the deadline to submit applications via the Registro de Entrada.

In the event of any incident, residents can contact the Puerto del Rosario Local Police on 928 850 635, the Fire Service on 928 530 744 or, in an emergency, 112. For more information, those interested can contact the Festivities Department or check the council's official channels.
